Génération(s) Start Motion, porté par Films en Bretagne et en partenariat avec l’École Européenne Supérieure d’Art de Bretagne (EESAB), est un projet ambitieux de formation initiale, continue et professionnelle. Il vise à renforcer et à renouveler significativement les ressources humaines de l’animation stop-motion en France, accompagnant entre autres une adoption transversale et transformative des nouvelles technologies.
Le projet est complété par ses volets « Green Puppet Lab » (recherche appliquée matériaux-santé-environnement-circularité), Éducation à l’Image, Résidence d’Artistes et Observatoire Appliqué.
Génération(s) Start Motion est un projet co-financé par la Caisse de Dépôts et le Centre National du Cinéma et de l’image animée à la suite de l’appel à projets France 2030 – La grande fabrique de l’image.
Dans le cadre du volet Formation, et en complément du Diplôme National d’Art Animation-Volume, Films en Bretagne lance en 2025 un nouveau cycle de formations continues et professionnelles.
FORMATION : Animation de personnages stop-motion
La formation continue Animation de personnages stop-motion vise à former de jeunes diplômé·es / nouveaux·elles professionnel·les du film d’animation au niveau d’assistant·es animateur·ices, pouvant dès leur sortie intégrer pleinement des équipes de production de films et de séries en stop-motion.
Elle est composée de 5 modules couvrant tous les aspects du métier d’animateur·ice stop-motion (bases de la stop-motion, le poids, la marche/la course, l’acting physique, les interactions, l’acting corporel subtil, le lip-synch et l’animation faciale, les émotions et bien plus encore).
À l’issue de la formation, les participant·es auront produit assez d’animation pour créer une nouvelle bande démo pour trouver un emploi.
Objectifs pédagogiques :
- maîtriser les bases de l’animation en volume
- animation d’action du corps entier
- animation avancée
- animation faciale et Lip-Sync
- langage corporel – animer les émotions : créer une performance crédible
Méthodes pédagogiques :
Les modules de formation allieront une petite composante théorique (1 session d’1h30 par jour) avec une grande composante pratique (exercices variés montant en complexité tout au long de la formation).
Un certain nombre des formateur·ices étant anglophones et, à la fois pour promouvoir l’apprentissage de l’anglais parmi nos participant.es français et pour pouvoir recruter des participant.es internationaux non-francophones, cette formation sera dispensée en anglais.

Prise en charge possible du coût pédagogique par l’AFDAS ou un autre OPCO ou par France Travail.
Des bourses France 2030 pourront être allouées aux stagiaires n’ayant aucun financement d’un OPCO ou de France Travail, ainsi que pour les stagiaires de nationalité étrangère. Les dossiers seront étudiés au cas
par cas.
Repas et hébergement à la charge du stagiaire. Remboursement possible de l’hébergement et des frais de repas par le financeur de la formation, se renseigner auprès de votre conseiller·e.
Évaluation de l’atteinte des objectifs : auto-évaluation des stagiaires à l’entrée de la formation. Points réguliers avec les formateur·ices tout au long de la formation. Auto-évaluation en lien avec les formateur·ices et l’organisme de formation à l’issue de la formation.

Génération(s) Start Motion, led by Films en Bretagne in partnership with the European School of Art of Brittany (EESAB), is an ambitious training project covering initial, continuing, and professional education. Its goal is to strengthen and significantly renew the human resources in stop-motion animation in France, while supporting a cross-disciplinary and transformative adoption of new technologies.
The project is accompanied by 4 complementary projects: the « Green Puppet Lab » (applied research on materials, health, environment, and circularity), Media Literacy activities, an Artist Residency programme, and an Applied Observatory.

As part of the Training component, and in addition to the National Arts Diploma in Stop-Motion Animation run by EESAB, Films en Bretagne is launching a new cycle of continuing and professional training programs in 2025.
STOP-MOTION CHARACTER ANIMATION
A 6-week Continuing Education Course
The stop-motion character animation continuing education programme aims to train recent graduates / new professionals in animation filmmaking at the level of assistant animators, enabling them to fully integrate stop-motion film and series production teams upon completion.
It consists of 5 modules covering all aspects of the stop-motion animator profession (stop-motion fundamentals, weight, walking/running, physical acting, interactions, subtle body acting, lip-sync and facial animation, emotions, and much more).
At the end of the training, participants will have produced enough animation to create a new demo reel for job applications.
Learning Objectives:
- Mastering the fundamentals of stop-motion animation
- Full-body action animation
- Advanced animation
- Facial animation and lip-sync
- Body language – animating emotions: creating a believable performance
- Throughout the course: building a new showreel
Teaching Methods:
The training modules will combine a small theoretical component (one 1h30 session per day) with a strong practical component (varied exercises increasing in complexity throughout the course).
Since several of the instructors are English-speaking and, in order to promote English learning among our French participants while also welcoming non-French-speaking international participants, this course will be taught in English.

Prerequisites: Candidates must be recent graduates or professionals in the audiovisual or cinema industry with basic knowledge and beginner-level experience in stop-motion, 2D, or 3D animation.

Price: €5,880 incl. VAT (€24.5/hour)
Training costs may be covered by AFDAS, another OPCO, or France Travail.
France 2030 scholarships may be granted to trainees without OPCO or France Travail funding, as well as to international participants. Applications will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Meals and accommodation are the responsibility of the trainee. Accommodation and meal costs may be reimbursed by the training funder; consult your advisor for details.
Evaluation of Learning Outcomes:
Self-assessment by trainees at the beginning of the course. Regular check-ins with instructors throughout the training. Final self-assessment in collaboration with instructors and the training organisation
